The latest King of the Deep stop brought us to Busco Beach in Goldsboro, North Carolina, and this one turned into a seriously gnarly weekend.
The track had been dry for weeks leading up to the race. Then, the night before the event, it rained all night.
Not a little rain either. Several inches.
By early Saturday morning, while everyone was setting up, the parking lot was draining straight into the unlimited tire hole. We stood there watching the water rise several feet before racing even started.
And it kept raining on and off all day.
But nobody packed up. The crews worked through it, the racers kept lining up, and we ended up with some awesome passes in some truly nasty conditions.

Women’s Class Brings the Competition
The Women’s class, sponsored by Terache Tire, had some great racing.
The pit was rough. You had to hit the right line and stay committed. If you dropped into the middle of the hole or got too far left, it was almost guaranteed you were getting stuck.
A lot of machines ended up needing the excavator.
That’s how bad the hole got.
Heavy rain turned the Busco Beach race pit into one of the nastiest holes of the King of the Deep season
Honda Classes Got Interesting
Next up were the Honda classes, and this is where things got fun.
Mudpuppy finally beat Vessel Sid in the Honda Solid Rear Axle class.
Now, did Mudpuppy cheat a little bit this time?
Not really. It was allowed by the rules.
But he was running nitrous on his Honda Foreman, which definitely helped get those 33-inch Terache Aztex tires spinning even faster.
Mudpuppy ended up taking third place in the class.
Even cooler, the Clemens brothers took first and second place on their brand-new 32-inch Aztex XLs.
Through our King of the Deep race contingency program, anyone who wins first place at a King of the Deep event on eligible Terache products can receive a $300 Terache gift card. We were happy to send that one out to Bryce Clemens.
Mudpuppy Wins Honda Side-by-Side
After the Honda ATV classes, we moved into Honda side-by-side racing.
Mudpuppy made it happen again, taking the win in the Honda Side-by-Side class with his Honda Talon running 32-inch Aztex XX tires.
That Talon continues to prove itself every time it hits the track.
Big Power, Big Skims, and Plenty of Chaos
Once the faster classes started, things got wild.
The Can-Ams, turbo side-by-sides, and big-power builds brought plenty of crazy racing. There were machines skimming, hydroplaning, flipping over, and fighting their way through thick clay that kept getting softer every time the rain came back.
Mudpuppy also raced the Talon in the Small Tire NA class and finished sixth out of 21 contenders.
For a mostly stock side-by-side, that’s a pretty solid result.
The holes were brutal all day. Thick clay, standing water, changing lines, and rain that just kept making everything worse.
Exactly the kind of conditions that show what a setup can really do.
Three Trophies for Team Terache
By the end of the day, Team Terache brought home three trophies:
- First place in Honda Side-by-Side
- First place in ATV IRS
- Third place in ATV Solid Rear Axle
Not a bad haul from one of the nastiest Busco Beach races we’ve seen.
The Terache Rincon Keeps Proving Itself
Our newest build, the Terache Rincon, also did great all weekend.
It’s currently running:
- Terache 47% gear reduction
- 30-inch Aztex XX tires
- Vessel Powersports lift kit
That setup gave the Rincon the low-end pull and control it needed in the thick clay, and it handled the weekend exactly how we hoped it would.
Busco Beach threw everything at us: rain, deep holes, soft clay, stuck machines, and a track that changed all day long.
That’s King of the Deep racing.
And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
